Parking Concept

The long-term goal is to decentralize parking and ultimately to remove the existing garage from the valley. With more housing, transit and shuttle improvements, better bicycle access and storage, a gradual increase in parking fees, etc., parking demand is expected to stay relatively flat over the master planning horizon, requiring no net gain. The following strategy would be implemented incrementally over the long term:
  • Gradually, over a 20-year period, add parking facilities paired with development of semi-public uses—Creative Arts (phase 2), conference center/hotel, gym/recreation-wellness center, etc.

  • As new decentralized parking is added, take portions of the existing garage “off line,” converting space to other uses

  • Incrementally, raise parking fees to provide additional funds for new parking associated with semi-public projects

  • Eventually, develop shared garage with Stonestown

  • Once parking supply is replaced, demolish existing garage in valley
